May 2024 - The Bedfordshire

CAPTAINS REPORT

Thanks to the 16 Members and 3 guests who turned out to play at the wonderful Bedfordshire Golf Club. The Bedfordshire hadn’t been on the KGS calendar for a few years but after this event it was quite clear to see why it had recently been given England Golf Club of the year award for 2024.

It was great to welcome back some previous guests Simon Burrows (fast becoming a regular), Dan Ausano and Richard Edwards.

It was a shame a few members stayed away from this years event and whispers in dispatches suggested it was felt it was a bit too far to come for a day of golf (53mins / 28 Miles). Now they don’t make KGS members like Jack Hills who said bugger that I’m coming! and travelled 9,436 miles from Australia to play. Legend!!!!!!!

Onto the event, we played for the Presidents Putter (Singles Stableford) and the Presidents Cup (3 ball Stableford – best 2 scores count) which was sponsored by our President, the one and only George Hamshaw.

Both events were super competitive, but the Hills family brushed off the jet lag (Jack) and cobwebs (John) and cleaned up. John won the Presidents Putter with an unbelievable score of 39 and both Jack and John aided by John Tarbox took the Presidents Cup with the top score of 88.

Other notable performances;

Presidents Putter – Fozzy (37pts) / Dave Rice Oxley (36pts) / Jack Hills (36pts)

Presidents Cup  –  Fozzy / Holmsey (still emotionally effected by his cut) / Thomo (KGS best dress man 2024) (2nd Place – 80pts)

Nearest the pin – Neil Matthews (6th & 13th) / Simon Thompson (15th)

Guest Winner – Dan Ausano (34pts)

The biggest mistake of the day came from yours truly as in the lead up to the event Dave had been telling me how well he had been playing and using the captains prerogative I decided to team him with me. This turned out to be the biggest mistake since Brian Clough signed Justin Fashanu at Forest as Dave went on to blob the first 6 holes in a front nine 5 pointer.

Hopefully see you all at Whitehills 21st June. Rich
