June 2024 - Whitehill

CAPTAINS REPORT

The ever-popular Whitehills Golf Club played host to our June event attended by 23 members and 4 guests. It was great to welcome back some previous guests Simon Burrows (soon to be a member), Dan Ausano (back again needs to join), Ash Jones (first event of 2024) and Chris Birch (hits the ball way too far).

On one of the hottest days of the year keeping cool and looking suave was the order of the day, this was no better evidenced by the unveiling of the golf shirt of the year by Dave Goodge. The pink and black flowered number was a standout and everyone was amazed that such a shirt could be made by JL from athletic fit material whilst looking so good. Dave paired with Neil Turley sporting his 1980's cricket hat certainly won the prize for the best dressed 2 on course.

Onto the event, we played for the June Shield (Team competition) which was sponsored by Ian Mitchell and Chris Westcott, thanks Gents.

As ever there was a real mix bag of scoring ranging from the winning score of 82 points from Roy Robert/ Jim (Bandit) Rowe / Dan Ausano down to the bottom score of 58 points from the bookies favourites Digger / Fozzy / Mike Howells.

Other notable performances;

2nd Place –  80 points - Simon Burrows / Pete Ibbetson / Ted Lincoln

Nearest the pin – Tim Watkins Rees (4th)) / Neil Matthews (9th) / Dan Gibson (11th) / Digger (15th)

The Champion Golfer of the year which has been in the firm ownership of Neil Matthews over the last 2 seasons has started to take shape with Pete Ibbetson leading the way after Whitehills with 23 Points followed closely by Thomo with 21pts. Neil Matthews (current champion) hampered by the burden of being my vice captain is back in the chasing pack on 17pts

Hopefully see you all at John O' Gaunt on 24th July. Rich
