CAPTAINS REPORT

The golfing marathon of John O'Gaunt was attended by 13 golfers for the morning slog joined by 17 golfers for the afternoon18 holes.

It was great to welcome back some previous guests, Dan Ausano and Ash Jones who took on the 36 holes and Simon Burrows who saved his energy for the afternoon session. Special mention should go to Ash Jones who scored a fantastic 72pts for the 36 hole competition which would have been enough to claim 2nd prize in the overall comp. (I told him he should have joined).

The morning round delivered some of the best scoring of the year with the whole field being split by only 10 pts which for the KGS is a miracle as some of us are really poor golfers. Clearly the handicap committee (Neil) that is regularly chastised by Messrs Holmes / Rowe / Marsh / Howells (all because they get cut) clearly know what they are doing.

The whole event that was kindly sponsored by Dave Goodge, Thanks Goodgey! Dave failed to pass a fitness test to join us on the day as his Dr had warned him that playing would have jeopardised his entry into this years world hot dog eating contest. Better safe than sorry as he is defending his title this year.

Onto the event, we played for the singles Stableford 36, Veterans and Super Veterans 18 holes. Reaching back to his formative years, Ian Mitchell absolutely destroyed the field taking the main singles 36 hole competition with a unbelievable 73 points, the Super Vets title with a score of 35 and 4 nearest the Pins awards. Some say they heard Mitch's knees clinking as he walked to his car - clearly they forgot he was carrying about 8 bottles of wine.
