Captain's Report - Harpenden Common

So we finally got to the end of our season and the weather gods were finally smiling upon us. An excellent full English breakfast started our day before battle commenced for the Frank Abbiss trophy.

This is a pairs best score on each hole competition. The fairways were in a much better condition than they were in March so the delay to our visit probably worked in our favour.

There were 3 guests. Chris came with Cal. Cal is the sponsor of this day and the son in law of Frank Abbiss. Simon flew the flag for Wales and was a calming influence on Damien who finished with the same number of clubs he started with. Finally Graham is Brian Majors brother and a member of The Common (cleaver move by the captain to get Graham to show him the way round the course).

George Hamshaw, Brian Major, John Bichener and Richard Watkiss joined us all for breakfast but were unable to play golf for various reasons.

Finally it was good to finish my year on a golfing high note. From the comfort of the clubhouse I witnessed John Holmes chip his second shot into the hole on the par 3 final hole. Well done John. The results for the day are on the score sheet photo.
