August 2024 - Wokefield Park

CAPTAINS REPORT – JOLLY BOYS OUTING Part 2

Watkiss Coach Tours departed from the Boot pub early Saturday morning with 14 intrepid golfers including the returning pair of Craig Barnes and Sam Gibbs (welcome back boys).

As I took coach driving duties for the day there was clearly some nervousness from the passengers that I knew what I was doing driving the 17-seater.

Nerves dispersed a bit following a few Guinness (passengers! not me) but not enough for me to volunteer the information that the last time I drove a minibus I crashed it.

(Even though the photos suggest that Neil was more than aware of this fact!)

Onto the day itself. Wokefield is a fab location with great hospitality but the course had more sand traps than the Sahara. If you can't play out of sand then this was not the course for you. Thank god Damo missed the event as god only knows what a melt down he would have had.

Despite that lake size bunkers there was some great scoring from the team format event which saw the winning team of Goodgey / Holmsey / Craig take the Captain Cup with 74pts. Well done chaps!

The ex-captains competitions was also a close affair with Neil Matthew nicking the win with 31pts followed by Dave Goodge 30pts in 2nd and Mike Howells 28pts taking 3rd

Nearest the pin awards went to Todge (3rd / 8th) / Sam Gibbs (12th) / Fozzy 17th)

Neil and a happy Dave after their successes.

Hopefully see you all at Brookmans Park on 6th September. Rich
